Leadership & approach
Leading as both a manager and a maker
I've spent my career moving between two modes: managing and coaching a design team, and staying hands-on as an individual contributor leading complex projects myself. Neither replaces the other.
As a people manager
As Director, Design & User Experience at Alternative Investment Exchange (AIX), I led a design team through research, concept, design, and implementation of platform features and marketing efforts, while coaching direct reports on design best practices and professional development, and regularly revisiting our processes to increase onboarding, QA, and development throughput.
As an individual contributor
At Comcast, as a UX Specialist 4, I lead AI design for the platform team as a hands-on contributor, conceptualizing and designing experiences for hardware and software, consulting directly with business stakeholders, and staying close enough to the work to inform product roadmap and strategy from experience, not just oversight.
Philosophy
What I optimize for
Mentorship is not a side project
From mentoring junior designers on HTML/CSS fundamentals early in my career to coaching direct reports on design best practices and professional development as a Director, growing other designers has been a constant, not an occasional duty.
Cross-functional collaboration by default
The best design outcomes I've shipped came from close, ongoing partnership with engineering, product, and business stakeholders, not from design working in isolation and handing off a finished artifact.
Empower teams with process, not just praise
Real empowerment means giving a team clear processes for usability testing, QA, and onboarding: the kind of structural change that lets people do better work without needing to ask permission every time.
